WM Phoenix Open welcomes legalized sports betting for the first time | Arizona News

SCOTTSDALE, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) — For the first time ever, the Worlds Phoenix Open will feature legal gambling. The tournament has partnered with betting company Draft Kings, which has a phone app for weather and a physical location on the pitch.

“This will make the golf tournament even more exciting,” said Dr. Michael Golding, 2022 Worlds Phoenix Open Tournament Chairman. “The level of excitement on every single hole, especially 16, 17, 18; it will enhance every part of the fan experience.”

All you have to do is take your phone out of your pocket and stop betting with your buddy, according to Johnny Avello, Draft King’s director of racing and sports operations.

“Watching these guys and being able to bet every hole and handicap on who’s going to win the week and get some pretty lucrative odds, that’s the exciting part I think,” said Avello. “You have so many different options.” For the first time ever, it’s not just the players who can take away prize money. “Put your money where your phone is,” said Dr. Golding.
