CHATTANOOGA — The Chattanooga Mocs volleyball team returns to the friendly confines of Maclellan High School this weekend, trying to recover from last week’s loss when they host Southern Conference foes Samford and Mercer on Friday and Saturday.

The first serve is scheduled for Friday at 6:00 p.m. ET against Samford, while the start is scheduled for Saturday against Mercer at 4:00 p.m. ET. Saturday’s Tilt vs. the Bears will be available LIVE on ESPN+ via the WatchESPN and ESPN App platforms.

Chattanooga (12-13, 6-4 SoCon) appears to be recovering after losing its five-game winning streak, the longest since 2015, in a 3-0 loss at Furman last Saturday. The Mocs sit fourth in the league table, three games behind leaders ETSU (9-1).

Samford (13-9, 8-2 SoCon) has won its last seven games in dominating fashion as the team has dropped just four sets during the winning streak. The Bulldogs are a game behind the championship lead. Mercer (7-15, 3-7 SoCon) is looking to recover after losing two home games to Western Carolina (3-0) and UNCG (3-2) at home last weekend.

WEEKEND REVIEW

Chattanooga (12-13, 6-4 SoCon) separated two Southern Conference games last weekend when their five-game winning streak was cut short in a 3-0 loss at Furman on Saturday. The Mocs extended them to five, their longest winning streak since 2015, with a 3-2 comeback win at Wofford on Friday.

TYSON AS ATTACKER OF THE WEEK
Natalie Tyson marked UTC’s third weekly award winner this season with the honor on Mondau. Tyson has since become the first OPOTW for the Mocs Gylian Fink during the final week of the 2019 season. For the season, Tyson leads the SoCon in total kills (340) and ranks fourth in kills per set (3.47). Her total of 340 kills ranks her 13th in the NCAA Division I this season, while her career total of 1,134 kills ranks her 80th among all active players in the NCAA DI.

GALLENTINE DESERVES HISTORICAL HONOR

Third-year libero sophomore Paige Gallentin was named Southern Conference Defensive Player of the Week last Monday. The weekly award is the fifth of her career and sets the program record for most selections in her career (Rachel Evans & Paula Passmore). She was named DPOTW three times in the past season, becoming the third Moc to accomplish the feat.

HOME COURT ADVANTAGE

Chattanooga is now 7-1 this season at Maclellan High School, with the lone loss coming in the five-set Chattanooga Classic title match to Miami (OH). The seven home wins are the most in a season since eight in 2018.
