UAH poised for two home competitions hosting Mississippi College and Delta State


HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama-Huntsville women’s basketball team will host two Gulf South Conference opponents in Rocket City and take on Mississippi College on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. before taking on Delta State in the finals of the regular at 2 p.m. on Saturday season receives.

The Chargers enter the competitions on 6-16 (5-12 Gulf South Conference).


Saturday in the barn is senior day with five UAH seniors, Selena Pruitt, Miajah Bullock, Adrian Grant, HollyHarrisand Sloan manto honor all.

UAH is coming off a week in which the team has been in action three times, picking up wins over Auburn Montgomery and West Georgia while dropping a Wednesday night contest to West Alabama.

Harris had a season-high 20 points in the win over Auburn Montgomery to eclipse 1,000 points for her career on Monday, February 14, and then set a new one with a 24-point performance in the win over West Georgia season high for themselves. Alexis Woods had a season-high 24 points in the setback against West Alabama.

The Chargers have three players who are averaging double figures this season, led by Alexis Woods who is averaging 12.0 points per game, followed by Harris at 10.8 per game and Pruitt at 10.0. Woods ranks second in the GSC with a 57.0 percent field goal percent and sixth in the conference with 8.6 rebounds per game.

Thursday’s opponents come to Huntsville with an aggregate record of 14-11, and Mississippi College is 9-9 in league play while dropping three of its last five contests. Ally Alford is leading the Choctaws’ offense and is averaging 13.2 points per game.

UAH is 13-6 all-time against MC and won seven of the last 10 in the series, and the Chargers hold a 7-2 record if the matchup happened at Spragins Hall.

Delta State brings an 11-12 record and is 9-9 in GSC play. The Lady Statesmen lost their last match on Saturday with a 70-69 setback in Montevallo. DSU is averaging 63.3 points per game and Zyaire Ewing is averaging 13.5 points per contest to lead Delta State, closely followed by Ke’Vonshaye Stackhouse averaging 13.4.

Chargers are 11-23 in the all-time series with DSU. UAH have won the last five encounters played in Rocket City, most recently a 63-53 victory at Spragins Hall on January 15, 2021.
