The Rockland Theater is looking for entries for the Youth Film Competition

ROCKLAND – The Strand Theater’s second annual Strand Youth Film Fest offers young people in and around Midcoast Maine the opportunity to create and submit their own short films.

Entries will be accepted from Tuesday June 1st to September 30th with awards and a public presentation of the films in the fall. The prizes are awarded by a jury made up of beach staff and local film professionals.

All filmmakers must enter grades 5 to 12 in the 2021/22 school year or between the ages of 9 and 18. The junior department includes grades 5 to 8 or 9 to 13 years old, and the senior department includes grades 9 to 12 or 14 to 18 years old.

Participants must live in and around Midcoast Maine, including Counties of Knox, Waldo, Lincoln, Hancock, Kennebec, Penobscot, and Sagadahoc. Films must be one to five minutes long and have a G or PG rating. They must be classified into one of the following categories: narrative (fiction), documentary, music video, or animation.

In each film category, prizes will be awarded for both departments and a “Best of Fest” prize. Movies must be submitted in .mov or .mp4 format (note that most iPhone and iPad videos follow these formats). Only one film is allowed per sender.
