“This is good news,” said Premier David Burt today after the Bermuda Gaming Commission announced on Friday that the St. Regis Hotel had been granted Bermuda’s first casino license.
The Premier said: “This represents new job opportunities and a potential increase in hospitality jobs. The process has been a long and detailed one, with the Commission and hoteliers working together to ensure all aspects of the legal requirements are met.
“The owners of the hotel have shown a real commitment to Bermuda and the East End of the island and we greatly appreciate their contribution to the tourism industry and community.”
“The development of the casino industry is one of the four flagship initiatives of the government’s stimulus plan and this announcement takes Bermuda one step closer to realizing that goal. This bodes well for additional investment in Bermuda and tourism in particular.”
