Escape from Nevada prison

Porfirio Duarte-Herrera, 42, who was sentenced to life in prison for the deadly 2007 bombing of a casino on the Las Vegas Strip, escaped custody last month in an independent escape.

A few days later he was arrested in Las Vegas as he was about to board a bus bound for Mexico. He was placed in another prison.

He had been incarcerated at Southern Desert Correctional Center in Indian Springs, Nevada, since 2010. It is mostly a medium security prison.

Meanwhile, the Nevada Department of Justice’s inspector general will review the prison guards’ actions related to Duarte-Herrera’s escape.

Duarte-Herrera and a second defendant, Omar Rueda-Denvers, were convicted of the victim’s death.

He was Willebaldo Dorantes Antonio. He was killed after a pipe bomb exploded on the Luxor Hotel & Casino parking garage roof.
