A big new Sin City player has a bold way of winning customers from Caesars, MGM, Wynn and the other Strip rivals.
Resorts World Las Vegas aims to crash the party and change the focus of the Las Vegas Strip. Right now, the shiny, massive new resort sits like an island on the North Strip.
It’s not far from Circus Circus and the new one Fontainebleauset to open in 2023 is also nearby, but for now, Resorts World exists as an oasis on an otherwise fairly barren stretch of the north side of the Las Vegas Strip.
Currently Caesars Entertainment (CZR) – Get the Caesars Entertainment Inc. report and MGM Resorts International (MGM) – Get the MGM Resorts International Report dominate Las Vegas’ iconic 4.2-mile avenue with their casinos clustered fairly closely together on the south and middle sections of the Strip. Wynn Resorts (WYNN) – Get the Wynn Resorts Limited report has its two properties in the central area, making it a kind of last outpost on the journey to Resorts World.
You can walk to Resorts World from Wynn or any of the Caesars and MGM hotels. The problem is that while the new casino has plenty of bells and whistles (including an amazingly diverse dining hall and an overall beautiful property), it may not be enough to entice people to make the trek (or into a cab or rideshare to climb). .
Resorts World ranks as the top hotel on the Las Vegas Strip, but it doesn’t really stand out from the other top-tier hotels, which are all much closer together. That means the new kid in Sin City has to do something to get people to do the hike.
And now, for the holiday season at least, Resorts World thinks it has that idea.
Resorts World brings Christmas to Las Vegas
Las Vegas doesn’t scream Christmas. There’s no snow, lots of neon, and really nothing reminiscent of the Christmas season. Yes, many resort casinos are decorating and Santa Claus might make an appearance on the Strip (alongside showgirls, shirtless firefighters, and discount Batman), but Sin City never quite embraces the holiday spirit.
Resorts World is hoping to change that with an 85,000-square-foot outdoor extravaganza it’s calling “Enchant on the Strip.” The event includes a Christmas tree exhibition, ice skating and for some reason a maze.
“Enter a world of adventure with stunning animated light sculptures and discover our charming village with ice skating, live entertainment, interactive games, restaurants, Christmas shopping, Santa & Mrs. Claus and much more. Open November 25th – January 1st” , the company announced on the Enchant website.
And while mazes are more of a Halloween thing, Resorts World is planning a unique take on this feature.
“Enter a holiday adventure like no other and find your way to our epic 100ft tall Christmas tree. Walk through lighted tunnels and larger than life displays with your family and friends, snapping photos along the way. And while you’re there, you can help Santa save Christmas! Choose your Enchant location to discover your city’s magical labyrinth story.”
There will also be a shopping village and some special treats.
“Try our superior hot chocolate, spike-lit cocktails, best-ever s’mores, hot appetizers, specialty sandwiches, homemade donuts and items you won’t find anywhere else,” the company added.
Las Vegas sends a confusing message
Though it has some adult accents, Resorts World’s Christmas event appears to be family-oriented. This is an interesting game at the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA). double on his now 20-year-old “What Happens in Vegas Stays in Vegas” story.
The LVCVA actually has a new commercial with the slogan “You can take your kids to Las Vegas, but why should you?” It’s a clever commercial that shows parents telling their kids that Las Vegas offers nothing but broccoli and dentist visits.
Resorts World seems to be banking on the idea that adults alone and travelers with children want to enjoy the holiday season. It’s a gamble, but Las Vegas was essentially built on gambles.
