Her last EP was The Woman I’ve Become. Is there a song that you are particularly proud of?
Probably [the title track] “The woman I’ve become.” I’ve never written anything so vulnerable. I usually like to write fun, upbeat, or confident songs, and I never write anything too emotional or deep. I feel that sometimes my job as an artist is to bring fun and joy. And sometimes it’s hard for me to be vulnerable. But for the first time I was vulnerable. And it was hard for me to get the song out, but I did it and I’m proud of it. And I’m even prouder because it seemed to touch a lot of people.
What was it like trying something new and then seeing the reaction?
You never know how people will react. I remember being very apprehensive about releasing it and not really knowing what people would think or say. But when the reaction was so amazing and so special, I felt good. Honestly it was therapeutic for me and made me feel like I could put out more vulnerable songs and people appreciate that.
Absolutely. Are there any upcoming projects you are working on that you can announce or share with us?
I have another cookbook in the works and I will have a recipe for a rum cocktail there. So I’m very, very excited about the book. My cocktails seemed to be very, very popular last time, so I look forward to adding more. And of course Malibu is one of my favorites so putting that in there would be awesome. But I also put out more music. Expect something really cool in July.
