This year, the Du Quoin State Fair has a number of new competitions developed by Tawmi Conley, the fair’s new special event coordinator.
There will be everything from a baby photo contest, a pet and pet parent photo contest, and photo content recreation – create a photo you took years ago – to a lip-sync contest, talent contest, and duct tape dress contest .
Right, a dress made of duct tape and nothing else.
“I really want people to be in these competitions, but a lot of people don’t know about it,” Conley said last week. “The submission deadline for the photo competition is August 25th – people have to print them out and bring them with them by 5 pm, otherwise they won’t be judged.”
There are many categories for the Kids of Personality baby picture competition because small children change so much in the first three years. Boys and girls are assessed separately in age groups from 0-6 months; 7-12 months, 1 year, 2 years and 3 years old.
The parent / child doppelganger competition includes mother / daughter; Mother’s boy; Father / son and father / daughter. Only one entry per family is allowed.
Cutest Pet Contest includes cutest dog picture; Craziest Dog Costume; Cutest cat picture; Craziest Cat Costume; Cutest Any Other Pet; and another pet’s craziest costume.
The prizes for all of these competitions will be given by the winners of another new competition – three young Miss competitions.
Instructions and ground rules for all of these competitions – plus tape dressing, lip-syncing and talent contest are available at this link: https://www2.illinois.gov/sites/dsf/competitions/home-show/ documents / homeshow.pdf.
Conley and her team are working overtime creating fund events at the show. and she would appreciate a good turnout.
