Hard Rock Casino Makes Progress Opening Temporary Casino and Hiring Staff | WJHL

BRISTOL, Va. (WJHL) – This weekend marked a milestone in the development of the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Bristol as efforts began to shed the first of thousands of jobs.

In November 2020, voters in Bristol, Virginia said yes to building a new casino and resort.

Casino officials said the temporary casino is on track to arrive on the Bristol Mall’s old site by June, with the full project to follow two years later in 2024.

Dozens gathered on Saturday to hear about the casino’s new opportunities and how they can get involved.

“I really care about the host, the casino host and promotions,” said Debbie Odum. “I’ve lived here most of my life and I know a lot of people and I think you know that would be valuable.”

Some new employees don’t have to wait long, they will start their work in a few weeks.

“We’re going to be opening a dealer training school in a couple of weeks, and that’s a six-week process,” said Jon Lucas, chief operating officer at Hard Rock International. “We’re looking for traders, we’re looking for security guys, we’re looking for surveillance guys, and we’re laying the groundwork and foundations for all other positions in the hospitality industry.”

Lucas said the overall project will create between 1,500 and 2,000 jobs, and the temporary facility will create about 300.

“Things like the hotel tower, the entertainment, Hard Rock Live, which will be part of the permanent casino,” said Meaghan Ryan, vice president of talent and team member relations. “We will of course continue to have gaming operations and temporarily food and beverage operations.”

If you are looking for a job, casino officials said all available jobs will be posted on their website by the end of next week.

“We’re looking for people who love providing great service, who enjoy coming to work and having a good time, and who are passionate about what they do,” said Ryan. “We’ve seen that in the area.”

“I’m ready for the excitement and support of the City of Bristol, Virginia,” Odum said. “They really need it, and I’m thrilled.”

Casino officials said they plan to hold more recruitment events in the coming months, yet to be announced.
