Avs are scorching hot
It’s no wonder the Colorado Avalanche are big favorites at the 2021 Stanley Cup odds considering how impressive they have been lately. Jared Bednar’s team have won nine straight games in Round 2, including against the Blues in Round 1. Nathan MacKinnon was leading with six goals, while goalkeeper Philipp Grubauer achieved savings of 0.936 percent.

The Avalanche dominated the blues across the board and looked like a true Stanley Cup contender. Colorado scores an average of five goals per game and the power play is 50%. The Avs have seen some heartbreaking playoff failures in recent years and aim to make it out of the second round for the first time since 2002.
The only blemish for Colorado in Round 1 was a suspension for top six striker Nazem Kadri. The former Maple Leaf was suspended for eight games because of his goal against the Blues defender Justin Faulk in Game 2. Kadri played two of these games, which means he would be eligible to return for a potential Game 7 in Round 2.
Golden Knights eager to take the next step
Much like the Avalanche, the Golden Knights are a team looking to take the next step in the Stanley Cup playoffs. Vegas made the conference finals in two of its first three years in the league but failed to win the ultimate hockey prize. They beat Minnesota 3-1 in Round 1 before extending their lead and needed a Game 7 win to move forward.

The Golden Knights are also a top contender in the cup odds because they are charged at every position. You don’t have a Nathan MacKinnon-type superstar, you have three scoring lines that can move up any night. Captain Mark Stone was a beast in Round 1 with four goals and a strong defensive game. Not to mention that goalkeeper Marc-Andre Fleury (.931 SV%) impressed Conn Smythe early on with his incredible game.

Analysis of the season series
The analysis of the season series between Colorado and Vegas shows that these are two very evenly coordinated teams. Each team has won four games against another, but Colorado came out on top when it put one of its losses into overtime. Both VGK and Colorado demonstrated the ability to dominate each other as Vegas won a game 5-2 and Colorado won a game 5-1.
What’s interesting about the season is that MacKinnon was limited to just six points in eight games. Colorado’s first line with Gabriel Landeskog and Mikko Ranten blew up for 24 points against the Blues, so keeping them at bay will be key to winning the series in Vegas. You have done two of the last three meetings with Colorado.
Golden Knights vs Avalanche Game 1 Best Bet
This should be a very tight streak that has strong potential for seven games. Each of these teams had 82 points in the regular season and are favorites in the cup odds for a reason. While we’re probably in a long streak, Game 1 should be the hot hand.

Colorado has not only won nine games in a row, but has also won 18-0-1 at Ball Arena since March 8th. The increased fan capacity has breathed new life into the building and makes the Avalanche powerhouse almost unbeatable in its own barn. The Vegas offense (2.86 GF / GP) hasn’t fully clicked yet and won’t be able to keep up with this explosive Avs offense at the series opening game.
