It’s a Safe Bet: Gila River Hotels & Casinos partners with the Arizona Cardinals and BetMGM to operate four sports bets – at its three casinos and at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, where the Cardinals play.
BetMGM is the sports betting division of MGM Resorts International.
Sports betting in Arizona is expected to be operational on September 9th, the start of the National Football League season, at Gila River’s Wild Horse Pass Casino, across from Interstate 10 from Chandler; Lone Butte Casino, south of town along Loop 202, and Vee Quiva, near Laveen. Sports betting in the stadium is expected to open for the 2022 football season.
“This is a great opportunity to build on our longstanding relationship with Gila River and start a new one with BetMGM,” said Cardinals owner Michael Bidwill. “They are first class partners whose excellence and expertise in this emerging field offer a new and innovative way to interact and interact with our fans.”
Sports betting became legal in Arizona that year when gaming contracts between the state and Native American gaming establishments were revised. The tribes agreed to allow sports betting outside of their casinos, such as the Cardinals Stadium, in exchange for allowing the tribes to add high-stakes table games, including baccarat; to expand on other games such as slots that are already on their properties; and build more casinos. Each tribe can also practice sports betting in their casinos.
“Gila River Hotels & Casinos and the Arizona Cardinals have an enduring partnership, offering guests exclusive experiences and remarkable rewards,” said Kenneth Manuel, chief executive officer of Gila River Hotels & Casino. “When we met our sports betting partner, the unit with BetMGM, the ‘King of Sports Betting’, ensures that we exceed all expectations. There is no doubt in my mind that these three industry leading brands coming together will deliver the ultimate sports betting experience in Arizona and cement Gila River Hotels & Casinos as the sports hub in Arizona. ”
Stephen Lewis, Governor of the Gila River Indian Community, described the turn of events as “an excellent development”.
“I’d like to thank Ken and his team for once again leading our community in this innovative partnership with our great friends the Cardinals and our new partner BetMGM,” said Lewis. “Building on the successful introduction of our new table games at Wild Horse Pass, this new sports betting company will now continue our successful implementation of our historic new compact agreement.”
Gila River’s three-way sports betting partnership enables Bet MGM to bring not only retail sports betting to the casinos that offer bespoke BetMGM sports betting and the stadium, but also its industry leading online platform.
Governor Doug Ducey signed law this year that allows 10 sports betting licenses for sports teams, 10 for tribes and 10 limited licenses for horse racing and off-track betting sites, as long as they work with any of the 20 other licensees.
“Gila River Hotels & Casinos and the Arizona Cardinals represent the state’s leading casino destinations and sports franchises, making them ideal partners for us,” said Adam Greenblatt, chief executive officer of BetMGM.
