About the lightning
Kent State starts the weekend with a bit of a heatwave after winning their last three contests, two of which are against conference opponents. In their Saturday game, the Golden Flashes defeated rival Akron 10-9 at home. The game was one of the most exciting of the season for the Flashes with Junior Kenzie Sklar scored the winning goal with 15 seconds remaining, which erupted in cheers from the team and the crowd.

The win served Kent State well as they sit at 2-4 within the MAC and retain sole possession of fourth place and last postseason spot. Sklar’s goal was her 27th of the season, a staggering total in itself. However, in the second year Jackie Wolford holds the team lead in scoring with 33 goals, and ranks fourth in the MAC with an average of 2.54 goals per game.

Second goalie in Akron game Taylor Monturo also got her first decision and win of the season by filling in for junior Madison Flannigan.

About the Colonials
Robert Morris currently has a perfect record of 6-0 in the MAC in 2022 and is positioning himself well in first place at the conference. With less than a month left in the regular season, the Colonials have all but secured a spot in the MAC postseason tournament and have a four-game lead over the fourth-place Flashes to reach last place in the playoffs . What is surprising about Robert Morris, however, is the large disparity between her performance in the conference and outside the MAC. While the Colonials have an impeccable record inside the MAC, outside of the conference they are actually winless, losing six out of six non-MAC games. But when it comes to MAC postseason, only conference records count, so RMU’s out-of-conference struggles won’t hurt their postseason chances.

In the Colonials’ final game on Saturday, they took to the streets and defeated Detroit Mercy 13-8. In that game, midfielder Jenna Irwin scored four goals and had an extra assist to lead Robert Morris to victory. That contributed to their season of 29-11 games overall, averaging 2.64 goals per game, good enough for third place in the MAC.

When Kent State hosted Robert Morris at Dix Stadium on March 2, the Colonials beat the Flashes 11-8 despite scoring three goals Jackie Wolford.

The Flashes are still looking for their first win against the Colonials after losing in all five lifetime matchups.
