France’s national lottery and gaming operator La Française des Jeux (FDJ) announced it on Monday exclusive acquisition negotiations started ZEturf groupas part of a strategy to strengthen its presence in the French online gambling market.
The acquisition is intended to cover areas in which the company is not yet active, namely horse betting and poker. This transaction is subject to approval by the competent authorities, the operator stated.
founded in 2001, ZEturf Group operates under the ZEbet brand in the online horse betting market and in the online sports betting market. The company has around 100 employees and recorded almost 800 million euros ($798.5 million) in bets in 2021, including more than 100 million euros ($99.8 million) in B2B bets, FDJ added .
Online betting on horse racing accounts for more than 50% of ZEturf’s B2C betsand is thus the second largest French provider in this segment with a market share of around 20%. ZEturf is also active in the Netherlands, Belgium and Spain.
FDJ bills itself as the #2 lottery in Europe. The company also offers sports betting ParionsSport brand. Earlier this year, sports technology company sports radar started serving ParionsSport’s online sports betting segment with artificial intelligence-powered premium sports video content near live in the form of 30-second clips of key game moments.
La Française des Jeux’s announcement that it is in talks to acquire ZEturf follows reports of similar exclusive negotiations with Aleda, a point-of-sale and payment provider; and the acquisition of payments specialist L’Addition. FDJ intends to sell the companies as part of its development strategy for its payments and services businesses.
