The AFC West was meant to be the NFL version of the Death Group. On paper, a division with Patrick Mahomes, Justin Herbert, Russell Wilson and Derek Carr should offer exciting and high-scoring games. However, that just wasn’t the case.

Mahomes and the Chiefs have underchallenged for two straight weeks while Herbert tries to play through busted ribs. Wilson and the Broncos could be the worst 2-1 team in the league while Carr and the Raiders are yet to win a game.

Las Vegas will look to end their winning streak on Sunday when they host Denver in the late afternoon.

The Raiders started as a 1.5-point favorite, but that number didn’t last long. They were seeded as low as -2.5 on Friday night, and there’s a strong chance the number could hit a field goal by game time. 64% of spread betting is on Las Vegas, as is 78% of ATS trades.

Kick-off for this AFC West matchup is scheduled for 4:25 p.m. ET at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada while the total is set at 45.5 points.

CBS will be covering the show, with Kevin Harlan on the phone and Trent Green providing color commentary.

Las Vegas Raiders betting analysis

Each of the Raiders’ three losses was worth a point. They blew a 16-point lead to Arizona in Week 2 before losing in overtime, and last week they shied away from a two-point call to force OT in Tennessee.

Offense was able to score and is ranked 11th in points, but defense got off to a difficult start. They sit in the bottom 13th in total yards allowed and 24th in goal defense.

Carr has thrown multiple touchdown passes in all three games but has yet to maximize the talent of his star wide receiver Davante Adams. Adams lit the Chargers secondary for 10-141-1 in Week 1 but has only had seven catches for 48 yards since. He’s had a 41% reception rate for the past few weeks and life doesn’t get any easier on Sunday with Patrick Surtain II draped all over him.

Surtain didn’t allow reception in coverage on five goals against the 49ers last week and dropped two passes. The Broncos are fourth in coverage according to Pro Football Focus, and you can’t help but wonder how much Adams regrets his decision to leave Aaron Rodgers and the Packers.

Due to an injury, Las Vegas is again without slot receiver Hunter Renfrow due to a concussion.

Denver Broncos betting analysis

Without survive and a fantastic defensive play all season, Denver could just as well be without a win. The Broncos are fifth in defense according to the DVOA and have dropped just 34 points all season.

Denver had to excel on that side of the ball because their offense was abysmal. Russell Wilson has led this team to an average of 14.3 points per game, the second-worst mark in the NFL. He has only thrown two touchdown passes so far while the team converted one touchdown to seven in the red zone. At this point, fans are no longer waiting for Russ to cook, they’re wondering if Russ is cooked.

Denver ranks 28th on offense per PFF despite having a solid rushing offense. Javonte Willliams and Melvin Gordon III are an impressive two-headed monster in the backfield, but sledding could be tricky against Las Vegas. The Raiders are the ninth-best run defense in the league but are in the bottom eight in coverage.

On the injury front, the Broncos have two offensive linemen in Quinn Meinerz and Billy Turner, which should increase the ceiling on the Chandler Jones- and Maxx Crosby-led pass rush in Las Vegas.

Choice between Broncos and Raiders

Unders are at an all-time high in three weeks, and the Broncos are a big part of that. They are down 3-0 so far while their games have averaged just 26.3 points.

Coming from last season, the Under is 11-3 in Denver’s last 14 contests, and we should expect that trend to continue Sunday. Her attack is a mess while her defense is good enough to slow down opponents much stronger than Las Vegas.

The Raiders, on the other hand, have only exceeded the total in one of their three games so far. They’ve yet to surpass 23 points in any contest, though they’ve played Arizona and Tennessee, two of the seven teams with the lowest defensive rates per DVOA.
