Condon and Tyler are the winners of the Joel Eaves Scholar Athlete Award

ATHENS, Ga. — University of Georgia athletics team member Shelby Tyler and soccer player Owen Condon received the Joel Eaves Scholar-Athlete Award 2021-22.

The award is given to the male and female student-athletes with the highest grade point average entering the fall semester of their senior year, based on academic hour rather than eligibility. Additionally, a student athlete must have earned at least two university degrees to be eligible for the award.

Tyler is a junior high jumper while Condon is a junior offensive lineman.

Eaves was Director of Athletics at UGA from 1963 to 1979, and the award was established with the aim of recognizing the contributions he made during his tenure while also highlighting the academic achievements of current student athletes.

Indoors, Tyler has a personal record of 5-11.50 after winning the 2020 Orange & Purple Meet. In 2020, she received the SEC All-Freshman Awards by finishing fifth in the indoor vault.

A native of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Thompson made his first college start (in the right tackle) in the 2020 season opener win in Arkansas, playing the entire second half of the right tackle in defeating Auburn, and also saw action against Missouri and Cincinnati. He earned a spot on the SEC Academic Honor Roll for Fall 2020. In 2021 he has seen three out of four games (UAB, South Carolina, Vanderbilt) as a reserve OL in action.
