In “Best of the Best,” the Times-Republican’s annual readers’ poll, voters have the final say.

For years, Marshalltown residents have looked forward to voting in the Best of the Best contest to support their favorite local businesses and business people. It’s the largest competition of its kind in our area, and we’re proud to host it to celebrate the places and people that make Marshall County special.

This year, we’re making the competition bigger and better than ever to give our restaurants, businesses and organizations even more visibility in the area.

Some of the changes we’re making this year include:

• Expanded Voting: This year we are encouraging all Marshall County businesses to participate. While our contest has traditionally been very Marshalltown-centric, we’re expanding the poll to include more of our readership and more local favorites.

• Nominations Round: The competition begins Monday, April 25th with an online nominations round allowing readers to nominate companies, organizations and individuals for all categories. This keeps competition fresh as new businesses and organizations come to the region and existing ones change and grow. Visit timesrepublican.com/best to make your nominations.

• Voting Round: This year’s voting round will be held exclusively online to allow more people in Marshall County to vote. In addition, people can vote in one or all categories once per day! This round will determine the Best of the Best winner and two finalists in each category.

• More transparency: We know that the best-of-the-best competition is important for the participating local companies. So this year we’re taking steps to increase the transparency of our rules and decisions about which nominees qualify for which categories.
