CONWAY, Ark. – Central Arkansas women’s football failed to circumvent the serious Liberty offense when they lost the ASUN competition 4-1.
The Lady Flames struck early and often as the Bears were unable to catch up in the long run as they lost their second match in a row.
Not much offensive was generated in the first half as both teams had three shots on goal together. UCA only placed one of these shots and was unsuccessful in the attempt. On the other hand, LU converted on their first shot of the competition when they scored in the 23rd minute. The Lady Flames got another shot on goal but didn’t convert as it was a defensive double. Highlight of this group was goalkeeper Keyla Perezwhen she saw a save in the first half.
The second half was a whole different story as the score opened up a little. Liberty struck first in the 51st minute as they took a confident 2-0 lead. The bears took back what they could when they hit the 60th minute nine minutes later. It was one of the best goals of the day there Emma Hawkins Blasted the defense in an incredible run down the left seam. She ran past the entire defense and found space on the left as she pushed him past the goalkeeper to cut the gap in half.
Although Hawkins’ run was one of the best goals of the day, it didn’t stop the Lady Flames. LU put two more goals on the board as they scored a penalty in the 68th minute and a header from a corner in the 75th minute.
Next, the Bears will compete in another ASUN home competition against Jacksonville State on October 7th at 7pm at the Bill Stephens Complex.
Quote from head coach Jeremy Bishop:
“It’s a frustrating day, sometimes it seems really easy for the other team to score against our team. We fought back to be 2-1 behind and thought we had some momentum, but then if we drop a soft gate, it just empties everyone. ” We just have to regroup and prepare for the next weekend. ”
